VOB files are what lives inside a DVD's VIDEO_TS folder — MPEG-2 video in a container designed for disc players, not computers. Rip a family DVD to a hard drive and you inherit files that modern phones, TVs, and editors greet with a shrug. MP4 is where that footage belongs now.

The conversion decodes the DVD-era formats with the site's built-in engine — it loads once on first use — and re-encodes to universal H.264 MP4, entirely in your browser. Home movies stay on your device throughout; a lifetime of family footage never touches a server.

How it works

  1. Drop your file

Any common format, any size. Nothing is uploaded — the tool runs in your browser.

  2. Convert

Compatible files are repackaged instantly with zero quality loss; others are hardware-transcoded at high quality.

  3. Download

Your converted file is ready on your device — nothing to wait for, nothing to delete from a server.

Frequently asked questions

My DVD has several VOB files — how do I convert the whole film?

Convert each VOB separately — DVDs split films into segments, and this tool converts files one at a time rather than joining them. Each segment becomes its own playable MP4.

Why won't some VOB files convert?

Commercial DVDs are usually CSS-encrypted, and encrypted video cannot be read by any converter — that protection lives on the disc. Home-recorded and camcorder DVDs are unencrypted and convert normally.

Will the MP4 look as good as the DVD?

Yes — the re-encode runs at high quality, comfortably above what DVD-era MPEG-2 contains. The limit is the source: DVDs are standard-definition, and conversion preserves rather than upgrades that.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. ConvertUno runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your file never leaves your computer or phone — there is no upload at all.

Is it really free, with no watermark?

Yes. Processing happens on your device, so serving you costs us almost nothing — no watermark, no account, no file-size limit, no daily quota.
