Frequently asked questions
Why does my iPhone save photos as HEIC in the first place?
HEIC stores the same quality as JPG in roughly half the space — across thousands of photos that is real storage. Apple keeps it as the default because within the Apple world it works seamlessly; the friction only appears when a photo leaves that world.
Will the JPG lose quality compared with my HEIC?
The conversion decodes your photo losslessly and re-encodes at high JPG quality — visually identical for viewing, printing, and sharing. Expect the JPG file to be somewhat larger than the HEIC; that is the price of the older format's compatibility.
My photo appears sideways in other tools — will it here?
No — HEIC files carry rotation instructions that naive converters ignore, which is why sideways photos happen. Our decoder applies the rotation and mirroring during decode, so the JPG comes out exactly as the photo looked on your phone.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
