TS files are MPEG transport streams — the format of digital TV broadcasts, set-top-box recordings, some camcorders, and the segments behind internet video streams. The format is built for transmission, not for playback software, which is why so many players and editors shrug at a .ts file that plays fine on the device that made it.
When the stream inside is standard H.264 video with AAC audio — the common case for TV and camera recordings — the conversion is a fast repack into MP4 with no quality loss. Other codecs are re-encoded automatically. Either way the file never leaves your device: recordings stay as private as the moment you made them.
How it works
- Drop your file
Any common format, any size. Nothing is uploaded — the tool runs in your browser.
- Convert
Compatible files are repackaged instantly with zero quality loss; others are hardware-transcoded at high quality.
- Download
Your converted file is ready on your device — nothing to wait for, nothing to delete from a server.
Frequently asked questions
Will the picture quality drop when converting TS to MP4?
Usually not at all — most TS recordings carry H.264 video that MP4 accepts unchanged, so the tool copies the stream instead of re-encoding it. Only formats MP4 cannot hold get re-encoded, at high quality.
I have many small .ts segments from one recording — what do I do?
Convert them one by one — each segment becomes its own playable MP4. This tool converts files individually and does not join segments into a single video.
Why do TS files exist at all if MP4 is more compatible?
Transport streams tolerate transmission errors: a corrupted second of broadcast does not break the rest of the recording. That robustness matters on air, but on disk MP4 is more compact, seekable, and universally supported.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. ConvertUno runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your file never leaves your computer or phone — there is no upload at all.
Is it really free, with no watermark?
Yes. Processing happens on your device, so serving you costs us almost nothing — no watermark, no account, no file-size limit, no daily quota.
