MP4 wearing Apple’s extension — for iTunes-era workflows

🔒 Files never leave your device — everything runs in your browser.

MP4 to M4V is the rare conversion that runs backwards down the compatibility ladder — on purpose. M4V is simply the MP4 container wearing Apple's extension, and a handful of tools still care about the label: iTunes-era apps that sort video by suffix, some older Apple workflows, and Plex libraries where the .m4v convention keeps home videos filed apart from everything else. When the software insists on .m4v, this gives the file the passport it wants.

Because the container is identical, compatible MP4 sources are repackaged instantly with zero quality loss — the tool copies the video and audio streams into a fresh file and shows a lossless badge when that happens, so you can see nothing was re-encoded. To be clear about what this is not: there is no quality to gain here, and no converter can produce or unlock the DRM-protected M4V that the iTunes Store sells. Everything runs on your device; nothing uploads.

How it works

  1. Drop your file

Any common format, any size. Nothing is uploaded — the tool runs in your browser.

  2. Convert

Compatible files are repackaged instantly with zero quality loss; others are hardware-transcoded at high quality.

  3. Download

Your converted file is ready on your device — nothing to wait for, nothing to delete from a server.

Frequently asked questions

Is M4V higher quality than MP4?

No — and it is not lower quality either. M4V is the MP4 container under a different extension, so there is no quality difference to gain or lose. This conversion exists purely for compatibility with software that expects the .m4v label.

Couldn't I just rename the file to .m4v?

Often that works, since the container is the same. The converter goes one step further: it reads the file, verifies the streams, and repacks them into a clean M4V — so you get a guaranteed-valid file instead of a rename you are merely hoping about, still in seconds and still lossless.

Will this make M4V files like the ones from the iTunes Store?

Not the protected kind. Store purchases carry FairPlay DRM, which no converter can add or remove. This produces plain, unprotected M4V — exactly what home videos, Plex libraries, and iTunes-era apps expect for your own footage.

Why does the conversion finish almost instantly?

Because nothing is re-encoded. MP4 video and audio streams are already valid inside an M4V, so the tool just copies them into a new container on your device — that is file copying, not video processing, and the lossless badge confirms it.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. ConvertUno runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your file never leaves your computer or phone — there is no upload at all.

Is it really free, with no watermark?

Yes. Processing happens on your device, so serving you costs us almost nothing — no watermark, no account, no file-size limit, no daily quota.
