MOV is QuickTime's container, and some corners of the Apple world still insist on it: older versions of Final Cut and iMovie, certain Mac apps, and workflows built years ago around .mov input. When one of them refuses your MP4, the fix is a repack, not a re-encode.
MP4 and MOV are close relatives, and when the MP4 carries standard H.264 video with AAC audio — the most common case by far — the streams are copied into the MOV container in seconds, bit-for-bit, with zero quality loss. Other codecs (like HEVC from newer phones) are re-encoded at high quality instead, which takes real time. It all runs in your browser; the file never uploads anywhere.

Frequently asked questions
Is any quality lost converting MP4 to MOV?
Not when the streams can be copied — H.264 with AAC moves into the MOV unchanged, and the result panel confirms the lossless path ran. MP4s in other codecs are re-encoded at high quality, where normal viewing sees no difference.
Why does some Apple software want MOV instead of MP4?
History — QuickTime predates MP4, and tools built on its foundations sometimes gate imports by container rather than by codec. The video inside is identical; the wrapper is what they check.
Do I lose anything using MOV outside the Apple world?
Compatibility, gradually — MOV plays fine on most modern software but MP4 is accepted absolutely everywhere. Convert to MOV for the tool that demands it; keep MP4 for general sharing.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. ConvertUno runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your file never leaves your computer or phone — there is no upload at all.
Is it really free, with no watermark?
Yes. Processing happens on your device, so serving you costs us almost nothing — no watermark, no account, no file-size limit, no daily quota.
