Canada is the trap country of ID photos: its passport photo is 50 mm wide by 70 mm tall (2×2¾ in) — canada.ca itself notes the requirements differ from other countries — with the face measuring 31 to 36 mm from chin to crown, while visa applications use a frame of at least 35×45 mm instead. Online, every IRCC stream has its own pixel window: passport renewal wants a 3:2 portrait JPEG of at least 1200×1800 (up to 3000×4500, 200KB–5MB, chin-to-crown 45–50% of the height), citizenship online wants at least 420×540 (max 4MB), and the PR portal accepts only 715×1000 up to 2000×2800 (max 4MB, pure white background, photo under 12 months). One preset for each, all at the official numbers.
The honest part matters more than usual here. Canada requires the physical photo to be taken in person by a commercial photographer and professionally printed — a home print gets rejected — so use the print preset to have a lab print at exact size, and the online presets to fit the photographer's digital file into each portal's window. IRCC also rejects photos "altered in any way": brightness, contrast, background cleanup, filters, AI — all grounds for rejection. Scaling to the required dimensions is expected; retouching is not, and this tool only scales — it warns rather than silently stretching a face, edits nothing, and runs entirely on your device.

Frequently asked questions
What size is a Canadian passport photo?
50 mm wide by 70 mm tall, with the face 31 to 36 mm from chin to crown — one of the few countries not on the 35×45 standard. You need two identical photos taken by a commercial photographer; the studio stamps its name, address, and the date on the back of one, and new adult and child applications also need a guarantor's signed certification there. The print preset renders 50×70 at 600 DPI for exact-size lab printing.
Is the Canadian visa photo the same size as the passport photo?
No — that's the classic mistake. Visitor visa photos use a frame of at least 35×45 mm (the international size) with the same 31–36 mm face height, two identical prints, taken within six months. The passport wants 50×70 mm. Check which document you're applying for and use the matching preset.
What are the digital photo rules for IRCC online applications?
Each stream is different, and using the wrong numbers gets the upload rejected. Passport online renewal: JPEG, 3:2 portrait, at least 1200×1800 and at most 3000×4500 pixels, 200KB–5MB, and it must be the photographer's original file — never a scan of a print. Citizenship online: JPEG, at least 420×540, max 4MB. PR portal: between 715×1000 and 2000×2800, max 4MB, white background only, photo under 12 months old. Each has its own preset above.
Can this tool fix my photo's background or lighting?
No — and for Canada that's a feature: IRCC rejects photos altered in any way, including brightness, contrast, and background corrections. This tool scales to exact dimensions and does nothing else, which is precisely what the portals expect. Nothing uploads anywhere — the resize happens entirely in your browser.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. ConvertUno runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your file never leaves your computer or phone — there is no upload at all.
Is it really free, with no watermark?
Yes. Processing happens on your device, so serving you costs us almost nothing — no watermark, no account, no file-size limit, no daily quota.
