The US passport photo is 2×2 inches (51×51 mm), square, on a white background — the first preset produces it at 600 DPI print resolution (1200×1200), ready for a pharmacy print counter or a home printer. For online submissions the State Department accepts square digital photos from 600×600 up to 1200×1200 pixels, and 600×600 exactly is the famous requirement of the Diversity Visa lottery — that is the second preset. Renewing online, applying by mail, or entering DV: both sizes are covered.
Sizing is the part a tool can do; composition is the part you do first. The State Department wants your head to fill 1 to 1⅜ inches of the frame — roughly half to two-thirds of the photo's height — with the photo taken in the last six months. Crop to a square with your head positioned right, then apply the preset here; if the proportions don't match, the tool warns instead of silently stretching your face into a rejection. And since this is an identity photo, it never leaves your device — there is no server here at all.

Frequently asked questions
What size photo does a US passport require?
2×2 inches square with a white background, head 1 to 1⅜ inches from chin to crown, taken within the last six months. The print preset makes a 1200×1200 file at 600 DPI — exactly 2×2 inches at print time, sharp enough for any print counter.
What are the digital photo rules for online renewal and the DV lottery?
Square JPEG between 600×600 and 1200×1200 pixels for State Department online submissions; the Diversity Visa lottery demands 600×600 exactly. Use the second preset for the safe answer to both, and switch the output chip to JPG if your photo is HEIC or PNG.
Will this check my head size and background?
No — it resizes precisely and does nothing else, and it says so rather than pretending. Compose first: white background, neutral expression, head filling about half to two-thirds of the square. Then the preset guarantees the dimensions are unimpeachable.
My iPhone photo is HEIC — will that work?
Drop it here anyway: HEIC decodes on your device, and choosing JPG as the output format in the same pass produces the JPEG that government uploaders expect, already at the right size.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. ConvertUno runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your file never leaves your computer or phone — there is no upload at all.
Is it really free, with no watermark?
Yes. Processing happens on your device, so serving you costs us almost nothing — no watermark, no account, no file-size limit, no daily quota.
