Output format

🔒 Files never leave your device — everything runs in your browser.

BMP is Windows' original bitmap format, and it is essentially uncompressed: every pixel stored raw, which is why a single screenshot or scan can weigh dozens of megabytes. MS Paint, scanner software, and old export tools still produce BMPs — and email, upload forms, and chat apps still choke on them.

For photographic content, converting to high-quality JPG typically shrinks the file by 90% or more with no visible difference. The conversion runs entirely in your browser — the file never uploads — and the result downloads instantly. For graphics with sharp edges and flat colors that must stay pixel-perfect, PNG is the better target and is one click away.

How it works

  2. Choose quality or size

Pick a quality preset, set an exact KB target, or switch the output format — tuned for bmp to jpg.

  3. Download

Your converted file is ready on your device — nothing to wait for, nothing to delete from a server.

Frequently asked questions

Why are BMP files so enormous?

BMP stores pixels with little or no compression — a 4000×3000 scan is simply width × height × 3 bytes, about 36 MB, regardless of content. Modern formats compress the same picture into a small fraction of that.

How much smaller will my BMP get as a JPG?

Photos and scans typically drop 90–98% — a 36 MB scan becomes one or two megabytes at high quality. Flat-color graphics shrink less dramatically and may soften slightly at sharp edges; keep those as PNG.

Does the conversion change my original BMP?

Never — the tool only reads it and produces a new JPG alongside on your device. Nothing is modified and nothing is uploaded.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. ConvertUno runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your file never leaves your computer or phone — there is no upload at all.

Is it really free, with no watermark?

Yes. Processing happens on your device, so serving you costs us almost nothing — no watermark, no account, no file-size limit, no daily quota.
