WAV is the right format to record and edit in and the wrong one to ship: at roughly 10 MB per stereo minute, a session that fits on a memory card will not fit in an email. M4A's modern AAC compression keeps everything the ear can hear at a small fraction of the size — the natural export step once the WAV work is done.
This is a lossless-to-lossy encode from the best possible starting point: an uncompressed master with no previous compression artifacts to inherit. The result plays natively on every Apple device and virtually all modern software — and it is produced entirely in your browser, so the recording itself never uploads anywhere.
How it works
- Drop your file
Any common format, any size. Nothing is uploaded — the tool runs in your browser.
- Convert
Compatible files are repackaged instantly with zero quality loss; others are hardware-transcoded at high quality.
- Download
Your converted file is ready on your device — nothing to wait for, nothing to delete from a server.
Frequently asked questions
How much smaller does the M4A come out?
Expect roughly an 85% reduction — an hour of stereo WAV at about 600 MB becomes an M4A around 85 MB, with the difference inaudible at the high-quality bitrate used here.
Is encoding from WAV better than converting an MP3 to M4A?
Noticeably — a WAV is uncompressed, so the encoder starts from the full signal rather than someone else's compression choices. One clean encode from the master is the best-case scenario for lossy audio.
Should I keep the WAV afterward?
If storage allows, yes — the WAV is your archive and editing master. The M4A is the copy that travels; the WAV is the one you return to when you need to edit or re-export.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. ConvertUno runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your file never leaves your computer or phone — there is no upload at all.
Is it really free, with no watermark?
Yes. Processing happens on your device, so serving you costs us almost nothing — no watermark, no account, no file-size limit, no daily quota.
