Most UK visa applications now use a digital photo, and GOV.UK's rule for it is a pixel floor: at least 600 wide by 750 tall — the second preset — as an unedited JPEG between 50KB and 6MB, upright and not mirrored. Where a printed photo is still required (paper routes and some visa application centres), the standard is 35 mm wide by 45 mm tall with the head 29 to 34 mm from chin to crown — noticeably not the square 2×2 format the US uses — and the first preset produces it at 600 DPI print resolution (827×1063). Passport applications share the same sizes, with slightly different file rules: online passport photos allow up to 10MB and must be taken within the last month.
Two UK quirks worth knowing before you upload. The 50KB rule is a minimum — unlike the Indian portals that cap photos at 20–50KB, GOV.UK rejects files that are too small, so don't run a UK photo through aggressive compression afterwards; resized at these presets, a normal photo lands comfortably in range. And the background isn't white: GOV.UK asks for plain cream or light grey, and a bright pure white can fail the face-to-background contrast check. Compose first — this tool resizes exactly and does nothing else: it won't fix a background or judge your expression, and it warns rather than silently stretching a face when proportions don't match. Everything runs on your device; an identity photo never touches a server here.

Frequently asked questions
What size is a UK visa photo?
Digital-first: at least 600×750 pixels for online applications, which the digital preset hits exactly. Where a print is required it's 35×45 mm — the same physical size as UK passport photos — with the head 29 to 34 mm high on the printed photo. The print preset renders that at 600 DPI (827×1063) for any photo counter.
What are the digital file rules for a UK visa photo?
A JPEG between 50KB and 6MB, at least 600×750 pixels, upright, not mirrored, not a photo of a printed photo — and it must not be the same photo that's in your passport. Passport applications differ slightly: up to 10MB there, and the photo must be under a month old. Keep the JPEG quality natural so the file stays above the 50KB floor.
Is the UK photo the same as the US 2×2 photo?
No — and reusing one for the other is a common rejection. The US wants a 51×51 mm square on a white background; the UK wants a 35×45 mm portrait rectangle on cream or light grey. Crop separately for each; both sizes are single presets on this site.
Does the background have to be white?
No — GOV.UK asks for a plain cream or light grey background, and pure bright white can actually fail because the face must contrast clearly with the background. This tool won't change a background — it resizes only, and says so. Shoot against a plain light wall first, then size it here; nothing ever uploads, since the resize happens entirely in your browser.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. ConvertUno runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your file never leaves your computer or phone — there is no upload at all.
Is it really free, with no watermark?
Yes. Processing happens on your device, so serving you costs us almost nothing — no watermark, no account, no file-size limit, no daily quota.
