Nigeria's official numbers come straight from the NIS passport portal: the printed standard is 35 mm × 45 mm with the head 29 to 34 mm from chin to crown — not the 31–36 figure photo sites repeat — on a white background. The online application's upload has its own official spec: 600×800 pixels, JPG or PNG, under 2 MB, which is the second preset. The two specs aren't quite the same shape (3:4 versus 35:45), so crop for the one your route actually needs, and use the portal's own "Test Photo Upload" checker before submitting. Either way you'll also appear in person: enrollment centres capture biometrics live, and adult applicants abroad no longer need printed photos at all.

NIS's published rules for the upload: white background, hair not covering the face or ears, no headphones or masks, even lighting — neither too dark nor too bright — with a relaxation for children under five, who just need to face the camera. Beyond that Nigeria requires ICAO compliance, which is where the familiar rules live: neutral expression, no tinted lenses or glare, head coverings only for religious reasons with the full face visible. Officially the photo just needs to be "recent" — no NIS month-count exists. And the honest part: this tool resizes exactly and does nothing else. It won't whiten a background or validate framing, and it warns rather than silently stretching a face. Everything runs on your device; an identity photo never touches a server here.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a Nigerian passport photo?

Printed, 35×45 mm with the head 29 to 34 mm from chin to crown on a white background — the NIS portal's own compliance diagram states those numbers. For the online application, the official upload spec is different: 600×800 pixels, JPG or PNG, under 2 MB. Each has its own preset here.

Does the e-Visa have a photo spec?

It requires a recent passport-size photo, but publishes no pixel or kilobyte numbers — any exact figures you see on photo sites are invented. Upload a clear ICAO-style photo (the print preset's shape works), and for consulate-processed routes your picture is taken at the biometrics appointment anyway.

Can I wear glasses or a head covering?

NIS's own rules ban headphones and masks and require hair off the face and ears; the ICAO standard Nigeria mandates adds the rest — no tinted lenses or glare, neutral expression, and head coverings only for religious reasons with the face fully visible from chin to forehead.

Can this tool fix my photo's background?

No — it resizes exactly and does nothing else, and tells you so. Take the photo against a white wall in even light, then size it here — and run it through the portal's free "Test Photo Upload" checker before you submit. Nothing uploads from this site: the resize happens entirely in your browser.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. ConvertUno runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your file never leaves your computer or phone — there is no upload at all.

Is it really free, with no watermark?

Yes. Processing happens on your device, so serving you costs us almost nothing — no watermark, no account, no file-size limit, no daily quota.
